ABPP Closes the year with a Bang!

Africa Biogas Partnership Programme (ABPP), the leading large scale Domestic Biogas Dissemination institution in Africa, has hit the 22,000 biogas digesters mark! This has happened within a period of only four years. With 1,723 biogas digesters constructed during the month of December 2012 (the highest ever to be produced in a month ever since the programme was established), ABPP has reached 22,170 biogas digesters!

Having constructed 751 biogas digesters for the month of December, Ethiopia attained the highest production for the year as well as the highest ever since ABPP was established. In the same month, the rest of the countries (save for Uganda) attained their highest production in a month since the inception of the programme.

Going by the trend experienced in 2012 it is clear that the programme has entered large scale dissemination. This is quite so considering that Senegal pulled out in the course of the year:
January: 616
February: 576
March: 648
April: 715
May: 754
June: 836
July: 867
August: 867
September: 947
October: 1173
November: 1274
December: 1723

As Ethiopia gave the highest production for the year and for the programme, Kenya remained the best performing as far as overall production is concerned. Below is the summary of how the countries fared of in the year 2012:

Kenya: 6749
Ethiopia: 5011
Tanzania: 4980
Uganda: 3083
Burkina Faso: 2013
Senegal: 334 (ABBP disengaged from Senegal during the year)

The total production for the year was 10,998 out of a target of 13,694 plants. That means the programme was able to achieve 80% of its 2012 target. Besides being the best performing country, Kenya was able to reach its target and even surpass it with 10 biogas digesters. Below is a summary of how the rest of the countries fared (in percentage terms) as far as reaching their target is concerned:
Tanzania: 97%
Ethiopia: 84%
Burkina Faso: 86%
Uganda: 43%
